Certification Bodies

FSC uses the third-party certification system. This means that FSC does not issue certificates itself. Independent certification bodies carry out the forest management and chain of custody assessments that lead to FSC certification.

FSC certification process

The FSC certification process is made up of an interconnected ecosystem of different actors and each actor plays a unique role. FSC develops the standards, certification bodies handle everything from initial evaluations to issuing the certificates themselves and conducting the required annual audits to ensure that certificate holders conform with FC's standards.

Assurance Services International or ASI provides oversight to these certification bodies ASI independently checks each certification body tasked with auditing certificate holders so ASI makes sure that auditing is always done by the book.
